Southwest Virginia Community Health Systems (SVCHS) hosted a school supply drive to benefit local schools in their respective site’s service area.
SVCHS has four locations, plus administrative offices and the T.K McKee building, which is home to New Day Recovery, Billing, and Southwest Virginia Regional Dental Center. Each of the five picked a local school and collected school supplies from the beginning of August through the end of October as an extension of National Health Center Week, which is celebrated during the first week of August annually. This event was ended in preparation for the beginning of flu season.
Twin City Medical Center collected supplies for Washington-Lee Elementary School. Tazewell Community Health Center collected for Tazewell Primary Elementary School. Saltville Medical Center collected for Saltville Elementary School. Meadowview Health Clinic and the Administration Office collected for Meadowview Elementary School. The T.K. McKee building collected for Rich Valley Elementary School.
Pam Hogston, Site Manager at Meadowview Health Clinic said, “The staff of Meadowview Health Clinic enjoyed collecting a wide variety of school supplies for Meadowview Elementary. We were very pleased to hear that we had chosen our supplies wisely when they were met with the awesome response of “hot commodity” “hot commodity” when seeing the multiple boxes of Kleenex tissues and Clorox disinfectant wipes.”
These “hot commodity” items are all items that are necessary in combating the spread of the flu during the winter months, especially the disinfectant wipes.
Judy Coomer, Site Manager at Twin City Medical Center, said, “It is very rewarding to contribute to our schools.”
SVCHS plans to make this an annual event to help assist the local, area schools as part of National Health Center Week.
