Southwest Virginia Regional Dental Center has recently received new technology that helps detect very early stages of cancer. VELscope is a wireless, handheld scope that uses natural tissue fluorescence to enhance the way clinicians visualize oral mucosal abnormalities that might not be apparent or visible to the naked eye.
It has been recognized by the World Health Organization and is the world’s most widely used adjunctive device for the enhanced visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities, such as oral cancer or pre-malignant dysplasia.
